As part of the digitalBAU conference, we organize the "Innovation & Startup Matchmaking" where ConTech startups and companies are personally and precisely networked on site at the trade fair.

Brief introduction of our program

As part of the Innovation & Startup Matchmaking, 1-to-1 meetings with suitable startups and digital solution providers will be organized for you on site. Gain insights into specific technologies, digital solutions or innovations and discover in conversation how you or your company can benefit from these new solutions. The format offers a quick way to get to know each other at digitalBAU and, in the best case, provides the starting point for a collaboration. The matchmaking is an offer of digitalBAU. For all participants of digitalBAU 2023, this offer is free of charge and registration is possible here until June 18, 2023.

Who we are

The BIM Alliance is a professional association of nationally and internationally active architectural offices. They have set themselves the goal of jointly solving the tasks arising from new planning methods in a practical manner. The potential and know-how of the participating offices offers the opportunity to define solutions quickly and in a demand-oriented manner, independent of software providers and service providers: by architects for architects.

Brief introduction of our program

In a first contribution, representatives of three architecture firms will present their way of BIM implementation and will also discuss the use of BIM Alliance tools. Following these impulses, an extended dialog round will discuss hurdles and solutions during implementation.

The second block of topics focuses on formal processes that the application of BIM entails: How are services correctly described in the contract award, how are they reflected in contracts and how should they be remunerated? The BIM Alliance presents sample documents drafted from the planner's perspective and discusses them with the client side.

The third contribution is designed by the Federal Chamber of Architects and the Federal Chamber of Engineers and focuses on the topic of further training with quality: Since 2021, in-depth courses on the BIM method can be attended at the planners' chambers. The BIM basic courses have already been successfully offered since 2018. A round table on the BIM standard of the German Chambers of Architects and Engineers will be held.

The target group of our contributions are architects as well as representatives of building owners and the construction industry. The aim of the BIM Alliance is to make BIM as practical as possible: by architects for architects.

Our selected topics show that it is no longer a question of WHETHER BIM is used, but HOW. And it is important to help shape this how - at all levels. Our contributions provide concrete solutions for planners and clients to bring BIM into the mainstream. But they also show where there are still diffi-culties and where more commitment is needed to make BIM applicable in practice.

BIM-Rollout in Germany – Who does what? Bringing perspectives together

In our workshop we’ll raise the topic of the digital future of the construction industry.

Which activities are really needed from which market players? What are the attitudes of various market segments regarding BIM and digitilization of the construction industry? Which role do certification and compliance for the construction IT play? How well do we understand each other along the supply chain of real estate projects? – Open, inspiring, interactive.

Why our topic is important for the industry

The slow distribution of the automation in the construction industry leads to the fact that many processes remain inefficient, costly and labour intensive for many companies in the market. This results in the inability for these companies to benefit from modern technologies and digital processes, thus endangering their competiveness and business results.

The German government stimulates the implementation of the BIM methodology in state-owned organizations using BIM Masterplan documents and other initiatives. This should animate the entire supply chain towards preparing for the new requirements with regard to BIM and digitial cooperation processes.

The need for efficient solutions that would allow to overcome the current challenges and ensure digital collaboration in the construction industry is obvious. This is confirmed by an increasing number of market players and ongoing trends.

Research and innovation can provide solutions on the path to climate neutrality and help to secure the future quality of life and work. The most disruptive drivers BIM, industrialized construction, connected buildings and AI have an enormous potential to reduce construction and housing costs.

Without the further development of digital tools, the construction and real-estate industry will not be able to finally get rid of its image as one of the world's largest CO2 emitters. The traditionally highly heterogeneous and fragmented structure of the industry makes it very difficult to combine efforts. In the context of a panel discussion, we will discuss the topic "The bridge between design, construction and operation is built". After a short impulse lecture, the following technical questions will be discussed:

  • What are the requirements for the quality of the data?
  • How is data transferred between software solutions and how can be ensured that the information can be mapped and reused correctly across software and lifecycle phases?

In addition, the following "cultural" issues will be discussed:

  • How can the building lifecycle be thought of in a cross-cutting way?
  • Collaborate - share information, build trust - how do we get it right?

The goal of the panel discussion will be to show the participants that there are already well-functioning systems with which all participants can easily start with BIM.

The most important thing in the application and use of BIM is the data and information. There are already numerous databases with very different data quality and quantity. The BIM project stands and falls with the quality of the data and the possibilities of data transfer, but also with the "right" BIM software. The clearer and more secure the data available to all parties involved, the easier the BIM project will be.

The data relevant for facility management and building operation can already be used and entered into the BIM model during the planning and construction of new buildings or the renovation of existing buildings. However, BIM should not only be applied to new construction or renovation projects. With the digitization of the building stock, the relevance of BIM will continue to increase, as building operation and management can be made more efficient and transparent using digital methods.

Der deutsche Gaia-X Hub ist die erste Anlaufstelle für alle Unternehmen, Organisationen und Interessierten in Deutschland, die mehr über das europäische Projekt Gaia-X erfahren oder daran mitwirken wollen. Warum unser Thema wichtig für die Branche ist

Digitale Lösungen für das Planen, Bauen und Betreiben von Gebäuden werden zum Standard in der Branche, wofür Rechenkapazität in Form von Cloudlösungen und ein sicheres Ökosystem für den Datenaustausch benötigt werden. Im Gegensatz zu üblichen Cloudlösungen bietet Gaia-X einen sicheren, offenen und transparenten Rahmen unter Wahrung der Datensouveränität.

Ziel des europäischen Projektes Gaia-X ist der Aufbau einer europäischen interoperablen Dateninfrastruktur für sichere datenbasierte Geschäftsmodelle. Mit Gaia-X entsteht ein digitales Ökosystem aus vernetzen Datenräumen auf Open-Source-Basis. Gaia-X ermöglicht den Beteiligten einen Datenaustausch, bei dem die Dateninhaber:innen stets ihre Datensouveränität behalten.

Gaia-X richtet sich an Unternehmen, insbesondere KMUs und Organisationen, die ihre vielfältigen Daten austauschen oder durch diese Mehrwerte schaffen und neue datengetriebene Geschäftsmodelle entwickeln wollen. Für die damit verbundenen Datentransfers stellt Gaia-X ein gemeinsames Regelwerk für Zugangs- und Transportprotokolle, Dienste und Richtlinien bereit. Diese folgen alle den Gaia-X Prinzipien Transparenz, Datensicherheit, Datenschutz, Interoperabilität und Skalierbarkeit.

Das Projekt iECO entwickelt smarte, Gaia-X-konforme Dienste, welche genau auf die spezifischen Anforderungen der Baubranche zugeschnitten sind und in Anwendungsfällen über den gesamten Lebenszyklus von Gebäuden - von der Planung bis zum Recycling -, zum Einsatz kommen.

The DGNB Academy is the central training and continuing education platform of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB e.V.). In numerous courses and seminars, the DGNB Academy provides up-to-date and practical expertise on sustainable planning and construction as well as sustainable real estate management. Seminar: Combining BIM and life cycle analysis - opportunities and benefits

The increasing awareness of sustainable buildings and their life cycle assessment is also driving digitalization and the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM). How does BIM work? How can efforts to obtain data for life cycle analysis (LCA) be reduced? And what are the potential applications within the planning process? After an introduction to both topics, you will learn about the opportunities and benefits that arise from the successful combination of BIM and LCA. The speakers Sebastian Theißen and Jannick Höper from LIST Eco GmbH & Co. KG will share their experiences and give you practical insights into the LIST Eco approach as well as recommendations for your own application.

The Leonhard Obermeyer Center brings together the scientific expertise of over 80 researchers at the Technical University of Munich. In dialogue with our partners, we jointly define technological research priorities in the field of digital methods in architecture, civil engineering, geodesy and geoinformatics, we offer a platform for international cooperation. Close networking with decision-makers makes the Leonhard Obermeyer Center a think tank for strategic developments in this field.

Digital twins for the built environment are virtual images of buildings, streets and entire urban districts, infrastructures, and their environment. A multitude of data from a wide variety sources complements the virtual twin to a valuable planning tool that can provide up-to-date information and forecasts at any time.

In its unique cross-thematic and cross-disciplinary approach, our program combines the fields of digital building (BIM) and digital urban modeling (CityGML) with innovative analysis and simulation methods for the design of "smart" urban spaces with quality of life.

A great advantage of digital twins of the built environment is the simple and clearly understandable visualization of complex calculation results in the models. In this way, they provide reliable support for citizen participation and decisions on improving mobility flows, meeting climate targets, developing new construction areas or implementing security concepts.

On July 5, 2023, the "Meistercamp" barcamp on the topic of "digital transformation" will take place on the exhibition grounds. A barcamp is not a classical conference because it has no fixed agenda. The process and content are determined by the participants themselves at the beginning and later developed in various workshops. Barcamps are very innovative and offer many opportunities to share and develop ideas with other people. Anyone who wants to advance digitization projects in the skilled trades can take part.

BIM for public organizations – governmental requirements and implementation activities

The German government requires a phase-based implementation of the BIM methodology from public organizations. – Which acitivities are necessary for this? Which best practices and steps can help public companies to switch to BIM as quickly and efficiently as possible?

In our workshop we reflect, together with the event paticipants, how to make organizations BIM-capable in compliance with the governmental requirements.

Why our topic is important for the industry

The slow distribution of the automation in the construction industry leads to the fact that many processes remain inefficient, costly and labour intensive for many companies in the market. This results in the inability for these companies to benefit from modern technologies and digital processes, thus endangering their competiveness and business results.

The German government stimulates the implementation of the BIM methodology in state-owned organizations using BIM Masterplan documents and other initiatives. This should animate the entire supply chain towards preparing for the new requirements with regard to BIM and digitial cooperation processes.

The need for efficient solutions that would allow to overcome the current challenges and ensure digital collaboration in the construction industry is obvious. This is confirmed by an increasing number of market players and ongoing trends.

Why our topic is important for the industry

An interdisciplinary program with experts from research, urban development, real estate management, architecture and building culture will reflect on current issues and topics related to digitalization: What challenges does the radical digital transformation pose for those who actively shape urban spaces? What opportunities does it offer? What new tasks and job profiles are associated with it? How can digital worlds affect analog spaces in terms of sustainable urban development? What role do AI and VR play in this? And is all of this ethically justifiable?

Keynote: Everyone is talking about the metaverse - but what does that actually mean in concrete terms? What business models are already linked to it? We are deliberately looking beyond the construction industry and exploring the metaverse through the lens of the creative and technology industry. We are interested in how various key technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and blockchain culminate here on the one hand, and how the metaverse, as the next stage of the Internet, has the potential to revolutionize our everyday lives on the other.

We are SDaC. SDaC stands for Smart Design and Construction and is a research project funded by the Federal Ministry BMWK. The research project investigates the use of artificial intelligence on the basis of use cases and develops practical applications for this purpose.

Use of AI in the construction industry: In an interactive presentation, the use of AI in the construction industry is demonstrated using selected AI applications from the SDaC research project. Building Innovation Ecosystems. In an interactive workshop format, we introduce the basic features of innovative ecosystems and develop fields of collaboration. Participants from the design and construction industry will work with researchers and start-ups to develop creative approaches to innovative exchange and sketch prototypes of future collaborative projects. The workshop is aimed at all those who would like to gain a deeper insight into the prerequisites for scalable business models and are looking for initial points of contact for an exchange with start-ups. With their many years of experience in science and practice of business development, construction and design projects, Dipl.-Des. Tobias Förtsch and Dr.-Ing. Christos Chantzaras offer an inspiring and entertaining format.
